Our visit to the Original Farmers Market in L.A. led us on a search for the perfect bite for lunch. We found that at Trejo’s Tacos hecho en (made in) Los Angeles!
As soon as I spied Trejo’s Tacos I knew that was where we should eat lunch. But we continued to meander through the aisles of the legendary farmers market, tasting little nibbles along the way. By the time we actually got back to Trejo’s Tacos we weren’t exactly ravenous. However, there was no way I was leaving without tasting something from Danny Trejo’s menu. I have his Trejo Tacos cookbook (Amazon affiliate link), next up to read on my Kindle!
I have been fascinated by this celebrity’s transformation from a life of drugs, crime, addiction and incarceration to an accomplished actor with over 300 movies under his belt. Add to that he’s creating his very own culinary empire. Danny Trejo’s varied restaurants currently include Trejo’s Coffee and Donuts, Trejo’s Tacos, Trejo’s Cantina and Trejo’s taco truck. But expansion is always possible and there have been hints of plans for a micro brewery and retail brand. Perhaps there will be Trejo’s Tacos all across the country one day. Who knows?
What I do know is that his tacos are absolutely delicious!
My Baja Fish Taco had a generous portion or crispy beer battered Atlantic cod that was topped with a tart/sweet pineapple salsa, spicy chipotle coleslaw, all sitting atop a flour tortilla with a creamy drizzle of avocado crema. A squeeze of fresh lime brought it all together into a mighty tasty lunch.
Steve selected the Steak Asada Taco which was created with a corn tortilla as the foundation, lots of seared flap steak tossed liberally in citrus soy steak sauce and verde slaw with pepitas pesto were the building blocks of this very flavorful taco.
Steve and I both wished we had more stomach capacity to try more of Trejo’s Tacos hecho en Los Angeles. The variety was quite enticing, but we had eaten way too many nibbles before our actual lunch. But there are too many tempting options to not eat our way through the Original Farmers Market!
