Since we were traveling with our friends, Sandee and Mack Pitts we knew exactly where we should have lunch on our day trip to Silverton, Colorado. With a name like Thee Pitts Again BBQ it was a “no brainer”.
The four of us just had to see what Thee Pitts Again was all about. Plus, it had the recommendation of Guy Fieri, since he visited their (now closed) location in Glendale, Arizona.
Steve and I had been to Colorado back in September 2007. We had gone for a jeweler’s conference and stayed after for about 10 days to explore the state. While staying at a charming B and B in Durango, we took the bus/train tour to Silverton. Ever since then I’ve wanted to revisit Colorado, especially Silverton!
We were so happy to have the luxury of time and good friends to share this expedition with. So the four of us piled in the car and took the incredibly scenic drive up the Million Dollar Highway from Durango to historic Silverton. The drive was truly spectacular and you can read more about it in my next post.
By the time we got to Silverton we were starving. All the four of us could focus on was finding a parking spot near the pink building that’s the home of Thee Pitts Again BBQ.
Once inside there was something fun to see everywhere you looked. Of course what stood out most were the photos of Food Network’s Guy Fieri. Guy was most impressed with Thee Pitts Again BBQ’s low and slow smoking method that created really succulent pulled pork. They use the same technique for their super tender turkey and catfish.
Once it was our time to order, Steve and I went right for the pull pork platter. Sandy opted for the pulled pork sandwich and Mack chose the smoked turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy.
We found a lovely picnic table with umbrella on the patio and waited for our food to be ready. The fresh air and view certainly added to enjoyment of a delightful lunch. Everything we ate was delicious, including the onion rings that “our Pitts” got for the table.
Steve and I have been to several “dives” that have been featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives across the country. We have never been disappointed in our experiences. The food has always been delicious and the prices reasonable. The places are always fun and never pretentious.
Once our bellies were full, we wandered up and down the main street for some much needed retail therapy.
