Scottsdale Arizona
We traveled six hours by air to Albuquerque, picked up our rental car and then drove seven hours to Scottsdale to begin our journey through Arizona and New Mexico. We were exhausted to say the least. So by the time we checked into our hotel “3 Palms” we were too bleary eyed and tired to go out to dinner. Fortunately there was a sports bar down the street so Steve picked up very respectable burgers and fries which we inhaled in our hotel room before falling sound asleep.
Refreshed and rejuvenated we headed out the next day to explore Scottsdale. We started off with brunch at Olive and Ivy at the waterfront downtown. It was a picture perfect day so we sat outside enjoying both the weather and the food. The manager Genevieve and our server Erika made us feel most welcome. We started off with a Bloody Mary for Steve and a really delicious Peach Bellini for me. I had the Funghi Trifolati Tallegio and Arugula which was a lightly crisp flatbread topped with wild mushrooms, tallegio and arugula. The nutty tallegio played very nicely with the earthy mushrooms and peppery arugula. Steve opted for the Olive and Ivy Sausage Sandwich which was a yummy mixture of scrambled eggs, sausage patty and melted American cheese on a soft fluffy house made English muffin which Steve enhance by topping it with their fresh salsa that added a rich tomato flavor with the perfect after burn. It was accompanied by crispy and delicious breakfast potatoes. From there we waddled over to a beautiful art show right along the river behind the restaurant.
From there we drove to Talesian West built by Frank Lloyd Wright as a home and Architectural School. We took a guided tour which was so informative and wonderful because we really learned a tremendous amount of knowledge of one of the most genius architects who ever lived. His designs were so far ahead of his time, so modern that you would think they were done today. We took lots of pictures so we could remember and share the beauty of Talesian West.
In my next post I will be inviting you to join us for dinner at Searsucker, Scottsdale; which is Brian Malarkey’s Arizona outpost of his very first restaurant in San Diego, California. Our evening was so special that it deserves a post of its own!
