Steve and I were so thrilled to finally be in San Diego California!
Mountains
We made many wonderful stops along the way. And we enjoyed every single second of the journey. One of the things we found most amazing were all of the mountains. South Florida, in fact pretty much all of Florida, is very flat! So seeing all of the mountainous regions was quite eye opening.
Don’t get me wrong, Florida is gorgeous. It covered with lush tropical landscaping and has beautiful blue green water on both coasts. But the west coast is spectacular. There are mountains where ever you look. But it’s the coast that is totally awe inspiring. As we began our journey along the Pacific coast, beginning with San Diego California, we just couldn’t get of the beauty of the mountains right alongside the ocean.
Enjoying the view
With the threat of Covid-19 constantly looming overhead, we were limited by what attractions we could visit. Restaurants were open for take-out only and the famous San Diego Zoo was CLOSED. This meant we would only go to outdoor attractions. Trust me when I tell you that we found plenty that we could do. Even if it was just to take a drive and enjoy the view.
Even food shopping became an attraction. The drive to Trader Joe’s led us to exploration, spectacular views and many sights we never imagined we would see.
Church of Christ of Latter-day Saints
The San Diego California Temple is one of those unexpected photo ops. This stunning church was the 47th constructed and 45th operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Located near the La Jolla community of San Diego, it was built with two main spires, but unique to this temple are four smaller spires at the base of each main spire. It’s gorgeous from every angle!
Hang gliding park and Mt. Soledad National Veteran’s Memorial
We also tried to catch the sunset over the Pacific from an awesome spot in the hills. And even found a really cool Hang Gliding Park. But one of the coolest sights of all was at the top of Mt. Soledad. There is a cross that is really monumental. Over the years there has been much controversy over this cross, but today in is part of the Mt. Soledad National Veteran’s Memorial. This cross is huge. And when I say huge, I really mean ginormous!!! It can be seen for miles.
New Year’s Eve
We began our full time RV life on June 1. We had made it coast to coast. And before we knew it, it was New Year’s Eve! We rang in the new year with a feast of Linguine with Maine Lobster and Mushrooms in Mustard Vodka Sauce and a great bottle of Spanish bubbly. The bottle even matched our decor.
Even though I was born in San Diego and have lived here my whole life (70 years!), I still can’t get enough of it’s stunning beauty. I don’t travel because I don’t need to. I live HERE, in San Diego!
However, I REALLY enjoyed your beautiful pictures and your delight at my beautiful home. I’m so glad that you enjoyed it! I hope you can come again. It has always been the most beautiful place to be for me. Other people travel and come home to say “it was nice but, it’s just not San Diego”. So, I travel by proxy. 😊
We plan on returning to San Diego next winter. Hopefully by then the zoo will be open. Our biggest disappointment was that we couldn’t visit the San Diego Zoo.
We lived in South Florida for 38 years. It has a wonderful tropical beauty and the beach and ocean are gorgeous there. But it is flat. The coast is just sand and water. It has no character. We have totally fallen in love with the entire coast of California!!!
