While Steve and I were mooch docking at our friends’ home, we celebrated our 55th Wedding Anniversary. After much deliberation we decided to go to Sakura Sushi and Seafood Grill right in Sulphur Springs TX, for our celebration dinner.
Sandee and Mack suggested a whole slew of restaurants, included some as far away as Dallas which was over an hour away. None of us really felt like going that far. Then, out of the blue, Sandee asked if we like sushi. We. well me mostly, LOVE sushi. They had totally forgotten that there is a great sushi restaurant right in their little town, until they drove by it that day on the way for groceries.
Sakura Sushi Sulphur Springs TX
Sakura Sushi and Seafood Grill was the perfect place for us to celebrate our very special occasion with our friends!
Sakura has the kind of very casual, laid back vibe that make you instantly relaxed. We felt no pressure to order and got to just sit and chat while perusing the menu, with its myriad of delicious sounding items.
Our appetizers
We started off with a couple of appetizers. The Fried Calamari was the lightest, most tender calamari we have ever tasted. The batter was so crisp and flavorful and the calamari seemed to melt in your mouth. Our second starter was the Tempura Shrimp that was also crunchy on the outside with tender sweet shrimp inside. And the sauces that were served each enhanced the dish that they came with.
The guys order
Mack and Steve have so much in common. And apparently – not really loving sushi, and going along with it because they love their wives – is just one more thing they have in common! Mack ordered a Hibachi dish that I never got a photo of, while Steve ordered the Combo Fried Rice.
Both men ordered the House Salad to accompany their entrées. The salads were made with very fresh veggies and topped with a dressing that was so delicious that I vowed to recreate it. (More on that another time.) The dressing was a Carrot Ginger dressing that was sweet, salty and slightly spicy all at the same time. It was so good that we all kept grabbing all bits of lettuce that were garnishing our appetizers and adding them to the salad bowls!
Steve’s Combo Fried Rice was loaded with vegetable, chicken, beef and shrimp. It was so satisfying and delicious, but very filling. So he took home whatever he couldn’t finish. It was just too good to waste.
The gals order
Sandee ordered the Heaven Roll composed of shrimp tempura, cream cheese, shrimp, avocado crunch and topped off with drizzles of eel sauce and mango sauce. It was gorgeous and quite delectable. And for “dessert” she ordered the American Dream Rolls of shrimp tempura and crab sticks that are enhanced by sweet mango and ruta sauces. Sandee called it dessert because it’s more
I decided to get a Spicy Yellowtail Tuna Roll and Soft Shell Crab Roll. Not only was my plate a photo ready work of art, but it tasted as good as it looked!
There was no question that Sakura Sushi Sulphur Springs TX was the perfect place to celebrate 55 years of marriage to my soulmate!!!
