Now that you are well informed as to how to set up you RV at the campground, you need to know how to tear down before you leave. In my RV Setup and Teardown Checklist Part 2, I’m sharing that vital info so you will know exactly what to do!
RV Setup and Teardown Checklist Part 2
Basically the procedure for tear down at your campsite is performing all of the set up tasks, but in the reverse order. To assist in guiding you that process I have another little check list for you. And since you now have all of the details from my previous post RV Setup and Teardown Checklist Part 1, so this checklist is much shorter.
RV Teardown Checklist
Interior
Turn off your Air Conditioner(s) or heat
Turn off your water heater and water pump
Make sure to leave enough water in the toilet to create a seal, but not too much or you risk the water splashing out of the toilet while you are in motion.
Switch your refrigerator to what ever in transit power source you use
Secure the items inside the fridge with tension bars and make sure that the fridge door is either locked or secured with a bungee cord.
Make sure that all of your lights, radios and televisions are turned off
Be sure to close and secure all of your roof vents. This will prevent dust from blowing in while you’re driving down the road!
Lower your TV antenna!!! I cannot stress this enough. When we first started RVing we failed to put the antenna down. We were fortunate that we only broke an inexpensive part that Steve could
replace himself.
Secure and lock all of your windows
Make sure that all of your cabinet drawers and doors are latched and secured
Be sure that the oven pilot light is off, if you have an oven.
Close your slide outs and make sure they are in the locked position
Close and lock your door
Exterior
Retract and secure your awning
Be sure to put all of your outside gear like tables, chairs, rugs, BBQ, solar suitcases, satellite dishes and so on, are stored away properly and secured
Disconnect, drain, rinse and store all of your hoses
Unplug your electric power cords and adapters
Turn off your propane
If you have a towable RV, stow your entry steps. If you have a motorhome, be sure that the steps have retracted
Retract your stabilizing jacks
For towable RVs
Hitch up your towable to your vehicle
Attach your break-away switch
Attach the safety chains
Attach the weight distribution
Plug in the 7-pin trailer plug for towing
Remove and stow your leveling blocks
Remove and stow your wheel chocks
For all RVs
Check trailer lights if towing your RV or car lights if driving a motorhome and towing a car, to make sure that they are working properly
Check your tire pressure on all of your tires
Final Walk Around
Double check to make sure all of your outside compartments and doors are locked
Walk around the entire RV and make sure that everything looks like it’s stored properly
Look above, below and all around your trailer or motorhome for any connections or items that you might have missed
Clean up any trash so you can be sure to leave the campsite better than you found it when your arrived
