Rincon Country East RV Resort Tucson AZ was our next destination after our stay in Albuquerque NM.
Rio Salado Sand Dunes
The scenery on our drive was spectacular. One of the marvels that we passed were the Rio Salado Sand Dunes with an elevation of 4,850 feet. Winds blowing across the usually dry, sandy riverbed of Rio Salado formed dunes along the part of the Rio Grande Valley that we were passing. The Rio Grande, just southwest of where we were, follows a massive geological trench shaped millions of years ago when huge blocks of land sank as the earth in central New Mexico slowly began pulling apart. The resulting Rio Grande Rift uplifted Los Piños Mountains to the east. Northwest are the Sierra Ladrones. Rocks on their 9,000-foot crests are similar to those buried four miles beneath those dunes.
Highway Rest Stop
We had been limiting our drives in Ladybug to about 300 miles. Because of this we had planned on stopping at a Walmart for the night. But as luck would have it there wasn’t a Walmart that allowed overnight RV parking. Fortunately we found a Rest Stop on the highway where we could settle in for the night. That’s one of the perks of RV travel. Being totally self contained we can stop anywhere safe and legal to have a meal or get a good night’s sleep.
Arizona
The mountain and desert scenery along our route seemed to get more beautiful the further west we traveled. Steve and I had visited parts of Arizona before. We had been to Phoenix, Scottsdale, Sedona and the Grand Canyon. This time we were headed to Tucson and Mesa as bases for further exploration. When we were in Arizona 5 years ago, we heard that there wasn’t much very special about Tucson, but we wanted to see for ourselves.
Sights on our drive
After our stopover we still had a couple more hours drive to reach Rincon Country East RV Resort, We had enjoyed a glorious sunset, fabulous mountains and cactus rich desert and as we drove the last bit of road to our destination in Tucson we saw an enormous Amazon hub and a “boneyard” for retired airplanes. We never saw so many planes. Miles and miles of old airplanes!!!
Steve was an Air Controlman in the Navy so anytime there is something air and space related we just have to visit. Unfortunately The Boneyard was closed due to Covid. So that will need to wait until our next visit to Tucson. But we also passed the Pima Air and Space Museum and made a mental note to find out if we could tour that.
Rincon Country East RV Resort Tucson AZ
As we pulled into Rincon Country East RV Resort Tucson AZ we could not help but notice what a gorgeous park it was. An equal mix of Park Models and RVs line the streets along with lush landscaping that gave the park a very lovely neighborhood feeling. We settled in and looked forward to our time in Tucson.
There was plenty to do right at the RV resort. That is, if it weren’t for Covid-19. Here’s just a few of their state of the art amenities include a sparkling pool, relaxing spa, propane delivery, private mailboxes, exercise center, , library, woodworking shop, arts and crafts room, gift shop, lapidary and silversmithing, card room, sewing room… the list goes on for miles.
Our RV site was perfect. We had a view of the mountains and strolls through the park revealed the fun things that people decorate their sites with. I spied a WTF Bird on one of our walks. Now I suppose you want to know just what species that is. So I will inform you. We had a catering client who had one of these birds made out of gardening tools on her property. She lived in an Equestrian community and people would often ride their horses passed her garden. When they saw her bird they would always exclaim What the F!!! So she dubbed it a WTF Bird. Steve and I could never forget that story. So whenever we see one we say “Oh, there is a WTF Bird!”
As I read the info packet from this 55+ vacation destination, I realized that we had more options for exploration than we had time in Tucson. In addition to being close to great shopping, dining and golfing Rincon Country East RV Resort Tucson AZ is conveniently located near Sabino Canyon, the Pima Air and Space Museum, Saguaro National Park and the Sonoran Desert Museum. Plus Tucson is not too far from Bisbee, Tombstone and Boot Hill. So you can see why we were so happy to be staying there!
