The Traveling Locavores are so ready to live our dream! There have been so many obstacles along the way but persistence does pay off.
Moving forward
Steve and I finally bought our RV and the renovations are nearly complete. They were actually almost finished before lockdown started. But the last and biggest hurdle was selling our home and most of its contents. Downsizing to Ladybug is a very daunting task and we hesitated to begin the process because we didn’t know how long it would take to sell our home. But we did move forward enough to remove a lot of our artwork (to a realtor it’s known as clutter) and pull out things that would fit on the RV. However there is still a ton of stuff to go through.
Selling our home
Our RV, Ladybug, is large enough, and with great storage, that we know a lot more can fit on it. We just didn’t want to jinx anything by packing up before we knew the house would sell. Last week we finally make the decision to list the house and just require that anyone coming through had to wear masks, take their shoes off and also wear gloves. So on Friday of last week our house was officially listed. Saturday morning our realtor called us to inform us that he had several prospects coming that day between 12 noon and 5pm. And Sunday we had a full price offer on the house! AND they want to close on May 25!
Packing
Yikes!!! We never thought it would happen that quickly. But it did. Of course, there are always contingencies, so we don’t want to jump the gun and call it a done deal. Our buyers still have to get their mortgage, and so does the buyer for their house. It’s just now we really have to hustle with the packing. In fact there is so little time, and so much to be done, that we decided we will pack it all up and move it to a storage unit near our son in North Carolina. It will give us an excuse to be close to our son and daughter in law for a while. With any luck we will actually be able to visit with them up close and personal.
Once things have eased up a bit with the social distancing we can have a big sale at the storage unit and then move on to being full-timers living our dream. But in the meantime we will be packing every waking second of every day!!!
So little time
So that brings me to another important piece of information. Because my time is so limited right now I am going to cut back on my posting. I will continue publishing new content on Mondays but will eliminated Thursdays for a few weeks. If I an bursting with news that I feel I must share I will certainly publish about it. I appreciate your support. Thanks!
We are so ready to live our dream!!!
MaryJo and I did the same thing 9 years ago, except we moved onto a boat. It is so hard selling all your stuff and I wished that we still had some special items that would not work on our boat.
Good luck with all you have to do in 3 weeks.
Thanks so much for the good wishes Joe! Yes we do have a tremendous amount of work to do in a very short period of time. Somehow or other it will get done. We are so excited to begin our journey.
Do you and MaryJo still live on a boat?
Best of luck to you and Steve – it will be exciting to see where your travels take you and how you see the US in the lens of the “new normal”. Travel safely!
Thanks so much Marlene! Happy to have you join us on our adventure.
