Opulent Beverly Hills California was only about an hour away from our park in Redlands.
We seemed to head to the Los Angeles area often from our base further east. But the drive was easy as long as we timed it to avoid rush hours. We weren’t always so accurate in our timing. I think that traffic was lighter because most people were working from home. But still, California traffic is no joke. I can’t even imagine what traffic was like pre-Covid! We were also very fortunate to be able to park easily and for free! My guess is that most of those places that we parked would definitely not be available in normal times.
Since these were not normal times we thought we would spend some time imagining that we were rich and famous. Our cruising up and down Rodeo Drive had us oohing and aahing at many a store window display. And of course, where else but in opulent Beverly Hills California would you take seeing an all gold automobile as an everyday occurrence.
After our window shopping spree we headed to the residential area of Beverly Hills hoping to get to see the homes of some famous movie stars. We had the addresses, but in each case those mansions are behind very high privacy walls or hedges. The key word there was privacy! We were still able to catch a glimpse of the huge homes that were so gorgeous. And that fueled our imaginations with visions of living the lifestyle that fame and money affords those residents.
The easiest way to find Mulholland Drive, which is way at the top of Beverly Hills, was to use our GPS. We couldn’t believe the crazy, squiggly route. That winding route took us through streets that were only wide enough for one car, but were two way streets! We encountered many hairpin turns and pretty much held our breath all the way to the top. But we made it. And we were certainly rewarded for our efforts by the spectacular view from the Mulholland Scenic Overlook!
Steve and I may not be rich, but we sure are enjoying our nomad lifestyle. Humble as our home on wheels may be it allows us to see every inch of this astoundingly beautiful country of ours. We wouldn’t trade Ladybug for a stationary mansion for all of the tea in China. It may be small by Beverly Hills standards, but Ladybug holds everything we need to live in beauty and cook great meals.
