Opening Day At Charleston Farmers Market originally published on Food and Fond Memories on May 27, 2014 by sandyaxelrod 0 Comments (Edit)
For many years I have been reading about how wonderful the Charleston Farmers Market was, but it was never open when we were visiting. That was not until this past trip. We were lucky enough this time to catch opening day and it was spectacular! Brian had to work but Eve, Steve, Hershi and I got up early and drove downtown to Marion Square in the heart of Charleston for the greenmarket. It was a picture perfect day and the aromas were drawing us in. Booth after booth of artfully arranged farm fresh produce seduced us to make a few purchases. I have really never been to greenmarket with so much of earths bounty arrayed so beautifully. Interspersed were some local artisans selling jewelry, baskets, ceramics etc. as well as some vendors with ready to eat goodies. A nibble here, a nibble there and before we knew it we had eaten enough to call it lunch so we wandered around the park to enjoy the entertainment which included pony rides and a live band. Lots of people came to the park with their dogs to enjoy games of frisbee and fetch. Hershi made a lot of new friends at the opening day at Charleston Farmers Market.
From the greenmarket we took a stroll through the gorgeous Charleston College campus and wished we could have turned the clock back just so we could matriculate there. From downtown we headed off to Harris Teeter to pick up the rest of dinner. It was going to be steak night with Prime Filet Mignon and Rib Eyes. Brian treated himself to a new grill for his birthday and he couldn’t wait to grill his first steaks on it. The night before it was amazing ribs on the grill to christen it. But for steak night Eve and I did all of the sides plus I baked Aunt Rita’s Chocolate Cake for dessert. It was a feast worthy of royalty, perfect for our last night in Charleston.
