NOLA should be renamed SNOWLA!
Just when I was back to telling you about our journey chronologically, we have a once in a lifetime weather event while here in New Orleans. I will get back on track soon. But for now, I have to tell you about what we just experienced.
NOLA Should be Renamed SNOWLA!
A few days prior to winter storm Enzo, Steve and I noticed there was snow in the forecast according to our iPhone weather app. We were surprised, but figured we’d just get flurries.
We have been coming to The Big Easy, regularly, since 2006. So we know that winters here are mild. Snow? Don’t be ridiculous.
Here’s why
We moved to South Florida from South Jersey to never have to deal with snow again. It was pretty shocking that we were preparing for an accumulation of 4 to 8 inches. We made sure that we had plenty of food to eat and propane to heat.
In the past when the temperature drops below freezing we have disconnected our water hose. This time we were told to let our kitchen faucet run in a thin, spaghetti-like, stream. Truth be told, ours was more like bucatini. But our pipes didn’t freeze. And since it wasn’t getting above freezing for a couple of days, we actually continued to let it drip. Fortunately we don’t pay extra for water.
New Orleans at a standstill
The city came to a standstill. Everything, except a Waffle House downtown, was closed. We were’t sure how they’d plow because we didn’t know if SNOWLA even had snowplows.
A lot of snow
It began snowing somewhere around 5 am and didn’t stop until around 6 pm. The whole time the winds were blustery and the heavy snow kept swirling around. The entire RV Park was blanketed in about a foot of snow by the time it ended.
I made a big pot of Southwestern Chicken Tortilla Soup to warm us up from the inside and we snuggled close through the whole frigid 20-degree night.
That is why I think that NOLA should be renamed SNOWLA.
