It is so fabulous to have a place nearby for a weekend getaway like the Mellon Patch Inn on Hutchinson Island Florida! For us it is only an hour drive up the Florida Turnpike. So we were happy to have the excuse of Steve’s birthday to head up to the Mellon Patch for a long weekend.
Mellon Patch Inn on Hutchinson Island Florida
The owner of the Mellon Patch Inn on N. Hutchinson Island Florida is like a son to us. Chris Block moved to our neck of the woods from England as a teenager. Our son and Chris met in school and have been friends ever since. In fact he was one of Brian’s “Best Men” at his wedding. So I am really proud of Chris’ accomplishments. I believe that becoming a chef and owning the Mellon Patch are what he was destined to do. He has turned the Inn into such a welcoming place that you want to kick off your shoes and stay forever.
The setting is a lush tropical paradise just off A1A with the beach and ocean just across the street. In the backyard there is a huge pavered patio with lots of tiki umbrellas and seating. Go down a couple of steps and you are on the lawn with a huge above ground pool. If you walk a little bit further you are at the dock where you can rent kayaks, bicycles and paddle boards to use in the Indian River Lagoon and launch right off that dock. There is even a pet friendly room, which is the one we stayed in with our Yorkie Hershi. It has a King be and sliding doors leading to a patio and that gorgeous tropical backyard. Hershi loved it there. Especially when he could spend time with his friend Cady, the owners’ 10 year old daughter.
There’s a delicious hot breakfast prepared every morning and something to really look forward to. I knew the food would be great because Chef Chris worked for us in our catering business. It is so much fun to see how creative he is with his morning spread at the Mellon Patch Inn Breakfast Buffet. Sometimes it’s a proper English Breakfast or Ham and Eggs Baked in a Portobello Mushroom. And there is always fresh fruit and beverages of all sorts available throughout the day.
The location is awesome too. There are many attractions in the area including the Navy Seal Museum that is just a little hop down the road. I will tell you more about this in another post. And for us it was great because there are several RV dealers close by. And restaurants galore that lure you in with great online menus are a short drive away. Plus the Vero Outlets are only a short drive North on I95. So as you can see you won’t lack for something to do while staying at the Mellon Patch Inn!
For us the ultimate treat was that Chris prepared a special birthday dinner for Steve. The shrimp and scallops with pasta in an Alfredo sauce was so fabulous we practically licked our plates clean. Oh who am I kidding. You know we really did! And for dessert we had Aunt Rita’s Chocolate Cake that I baked and glazed at home, froze and brought with to enjoy on Steve’s Birthday. Just writing about this place makes me want to visit again soon!
Sounds like a fabulous inn! That birthday dinner looks so good!
The inn really is fabulous. It is the type of place that calls you back again and again. And the homemade breakfasts are a real treat!
