Since June 1 Steve and I have been living our dream of being full time RVers and it’s awesome!
Many people who have transitioned from a brick and mortar home to an RV had suggested staying in an RV park close to home for a few weeks before heading out on the road. We decided to heed their sage advice. The hard part was finding someplace to stay that was open and wasn’t too expensive. We had hoped to stay at a county park in Lake Worth, Florida. John Prince Park to be exact. But they had not yet reopened to camping. So we chose Palm Beach Traveler Park in Lantana, Florida. We had made a reservation for one week, thinking we would move to John Prince Park if it opened up. Instead we just stayed put. And one week turned into three!
Palm Beach Traveler Park
We were so comfortable there. All of their amenities were opened (TV room, laundry, showers, dog run and indoor pool) and we knew how to get to all of our usual shopping haunts. Hello Publix, Home Depot, Trader Joe’s and Costco. Ladybug was almost perfect when we moved in, but there were still a few things that needed to be taken care of.
In Dash Radio
When we bought the RV it did not have a radio in the dash. The previous owner gave us the one he was going to install but it was a CB radio and we really wanted a bluetooth one. We picked one up at Best Buy and found an mobile tech to install it. It would be awesome to finally have music while we traveled. Only issue was that we learned that it only worked when we were plugged in to electric. That would mean we’d need a mighty long cord if we were to listen to music and travel the country! LOL. The tech was able to walk Steve through all of the steps to correct that problem. But he had to take the whole dash apart and spend hours on the phone getting instructions. At least he was able to fix the issue.
Refrigerator
The biggest and most dramatic change was having a new household refrigerator installed. If you have never seen an RV fridge, they are really, really small. Some RVs have double RV fridges that give you ample room. But Ladybug had a 7.3 cubic foot Norcold that was minute. The freezer was so small that there wasn’t even room to make one tray of ice. And the refrigerator portion did not offer enough space for any real food shopping. And I am a chef. I need to have food to cook with! The problem was solved by getting a 10.1 cubic foot Magic Chef refrigerator. We could not believe how much more room we had. Steve had taken all of our food to the office fridge for safe keeping while the job was being done by the fabulous Travel Tech team. When he brought it back and I had put it all in the new fridge I asked him where the rest of the food was! But it was all there with tons of room to go shopping. We were very happy campers indeed.
Toilet
Not everything was perfect though. A few days before we left Lantana Steve woke up to discover that our toilet was clogged. After trying many suggestions from other RVers we were forced to use the bathrooms at the bath house. The bathrooms were nice enough, but walking a block and a half every single time you need to go is awful. Especially if you have to go in the middle of the night!!! The next morning Steve called Roto Rooter. Problem solved.
We learned a couple of things by this experience. We can no longer use my much loved Charmin’ Ultra and we need to empty the black water tank only when full and pour in about 5-6 gallons of fresh water when we do empty it. Lesson learned.
Entertaining
We even got to entertain a bit while still in Palm Beach. We had friends for dinner, relatives for lunch and more friends for drinks to say goodbye for now.
See ya Palm Beach
We left Palm Beach on Tuesday, June 23 and headed up to Sunkissed Village RV Resort for a few days. I will tell you all about that very soon
