One of the joys of what I do is receiving books, especially cookbooks, to review and share with you. Frequently I’m sent a book before it is even available for purchase. This particular cookbook takes us on a vegetarian food journey from Sri Lanka to Nepal.

Vegetarian and Vegan Recipes

Peter Kuruvita shares over 100 vegetarian and vegan recipes as his way of taking us on a culinary adventure of discovery through the subcontinent – from Bhutan, Napalming and Afghanistan to India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and his home country of Sri Lanka. Spiced with the flavors of his life and travels these dishes reflect not only the diversity of the regions, but their legendary hospitality, their energy and excitement, extraordinary landscapes and their rich history.

Lands of the Curry Leaf is a treasure trove of plant-based flavors with recipes for street foods, pulses and legumes, salads, dairy based dishes, curries, stir-fries and stews, rice, soups, chutneys and sauces. To help you understand the ingredients there is a detailed glossary as well as advice on setting up a subcontinental pantry. Kuruvita shows you how to temper and blend spices and adapt authentic regional cooking methods for the home kitchen.

This book is truly a celebration of all things vegetable and their growing prominence at our tables. Vegetables, grains and pulses can be culinary stars. And Peter takes simple, honest, health-giving ingredients, adds a variety of exciting spices, and then transforms them into a complete and joyous meal.
