We arrived at beautiful John Prince Park Campground in Lake Worth FL on Father’s Day. Steve and I looked forward to spending one month visiting with all of our friends and family that we hadn’t seen in over a year.
John Prince Park Campground Lake Worth FL
History
The park is named to honor former county commissioner John Prince who served for 18 years. Mr. Prince got developers and the state of Florida to donate more than 1,000 acres of land in the 1930s and 1940s. Part of that became the park and the remainder was developed as Palm Beach State College’s Lake Worth campus and the Lantana Airport.
Our stay
This was our first time staying at John Prince Park Campground, but our son had camped there years ago and highly recommended it. It is a Palm Beach County Park with gorgeous lake views and full hookups. As we drove to our site we noticed just how large and beautiful the campground really was!
Initially we were only going to stay a month in South Florida. So when we go here we were busy almost every night visiting with all of wonderful peeps we had left behind to travel full time. And we were having a blast.
One month became 5
Then Steve got the results of his semi annual bloodwork from the VA. His PSA was very high. The MRI that was ordered to examine his prostate revealed questionable areas which led to a prostate biopsy. After many stressful weeks of waiting for the results, we got the news that he did have prostate cancer. The urologist outlined our options. And after a pet scan which, thankfully, showed that the cancer was contained within the prostate, Steve decided on radiation treatment in conjunction with hormone therapy.
Steve’s last radiation treatment will be on Thursday, November 9, 2023. The timed release hormone shots are every 6 months for 2-3 years. The truly amazing part is that he has had no real adverse side effects. We attribute it to the fact that he has been using the Neumi NutriSwish (glutathione) twice a day, instead of once.
Steve has been able to do a bunch of handyman jobs to earn some extra income. What’s really important is that he was not fatigued by his radiation treatments.
But I digress. Our one month at John Prince Park Campground Lake Worth FL turned into 5 months, which is the maximum time you can spend at the campground in one year. It has been a blessing in disguise. We got to make so many new friends here at the park because campers are so friendly. And we have been able to spend a lot more time visiting with our amazing and supportive friends.
John Prince Park and Campground amenities
John Prince Park has so much to offer besides an awesome campground. There are hiking trails, a driving range and golf course on the 726.36 acres. There are laundry facilities and bath houses on the campgrounds.
The park is also very conveniently located close to I-95, shopping galore and a multitude of great restaurants. It’s also only about a 10 minute drive to gorgeous Lake Worth Beach!
Lake Osbourne is 338 acres of fresh water that is 27-feet deep and abundantly stocked with fish. If you are an avid fisherman, or just like to dabble, you can find largemouth bass, sunshine bass, butterfly peacock bass, black crappie, bluegill, redear sunfish or bream, catfish and Mayan cichlids. Bank access is plentiful so bring your fishing poles!
Within the gates of the campground there’s a boat ramp for campers who bring boats or jet skis to have access to the lake. I do believe there are gators in the Lake, so swimming is probably not the smartest water sport to partake in.
Make reservations in advance
This is probably the best campground in the area. Obviously that makes it very popular, especially for the fall and winter season. As the weather gets chillier up north we have noticed a steady flow of new RVs coming in for extended stays. The monthly rate is still reasonably priced, even with the new price increase to just over $1,200.
We certainly plan on staying at John Prince Park Campground Lake Worth FL when we return to SoFla about a year from now. In fact, if we could, we’d make our reservation right now. But country rules are county rules, and we can reserve until we are 90 days out from our arrival date. We have put August 15, 2024 on our calendar with a reminder so that we can book our time here far enough in advance. This has become one of our very favorite campgrounds!!!
Hi
Very interesting background!
Have you ever visited or worked in Yellowstone park???
Alan lazar
Thank you Alan! We visited Yellowstone last year, just a couple of days before floods forced the park to close. It was absolutely amazing. We saw a 4 1/2 minute show from Old Faithful and a bison was right next to our car on my side. I got 2 awesome photos of him. So majestic!!! If you type Yellowstone into my search bar you can read about it and see the pix.
I see that you are also a chef. Where do you work?
