If we have to do something every day, it is very easy to lose that passion. What once made your heart flutter, now looks grey, dull, and monotonous, and you’d do anything not to do it. Cooking is a necessity. We have to cook to live. But when you get home after a long hard day, or if you have five kids to feed, that shine definitely fades, and the last thing you want to do is cut up onions and bake something wholesome. It is far easier to shove something easy in the oven or microwave, or worse yet, get takeout. Home cooking, like it or not, is the healthiest way to eat.

How to Put the Love Back Into Cooking

So, how can you put the love back into cooking:

Start with the Setting

Perhaps the real reason you have fallen out of love with cooking is because your kitchen no longer inspires you. In fact, looking around it makes you feel drab and depressed. Well, maybe you need to find ways to upgrade your kitchen and make it a place you want to be, a place that inspires you. If you are lucky enough to have a pretty large budget, then the simple answer is to buy a new kitchen and make you have all your kitchen boxes filled. If a new kitchen is out of the question at the moment, then there are other ways to do this. Maybe a new paint job will do the trick? You can paint walls, cabinets, doors, and anything else that happens to be there. How about installing some floating shelves and putting out some of your best china, and putting up a few plants? You could buy a new backsplash and put up some pictures. Try replacing the faucets and handles with new designs. If you do not have a seating area due to a small kitchen, how about a space-saving table that lifts up from the wall with foldaway chairs? You may need to get a little creative but if inspiration is what your kitchen lacks, then you can put this back.

We live in an RV and I needed my kitchen to be a place of inspiration and joy. I feel happy now, even just thinking about what I want to cook!

Cook Something You Like

Before you start thinking, you need to experiment and go wild to reignite your passion; stop and think. You are far better off starting with a dish you know you love. Think about something that you always enjoy, maybe something in the slow cooker, or maybe it’s your very own take on flaky pastry pies. It doesn’t matter. Whatever it is, you know when you put it in your mouth, you will get that warm and fuzzy feeling along with a bunch of nostalgia for good measure. These things will help you get back to the cookbook.

New Recipes

So you’ve tried something old, well cooking is about trying new things too. So, get that cookbook out and start making something new, and try parmesan roasted broccoli with dinner this week or mandarin chicken. Experiment with new flavors, spices, and herbs, and buy new vegetables you have never tried before. Variety is the spice of life, so make it spicy.
