Gilchrist Restaurant Atlantic City NJ

One of the things I like best about visiting the Jersey Shore is being able to reconnect with old friends. And breakfast at Gilchrist’s Marina Restaurant was the perfect spot to meet one of my best friends since 1st grade.

Caren was one of those friends who was more like a sister, but our relationship was even better because there was no sibling rivalry. I called her parents Mom and Dad and she did the same with mine. Sadly after high school graduation we drifted apart. But, thanks to Facebook, we found each other about 10 years ago and have continued our friendship long distance with a few face to face visits in between. So I couldn’t wait for our scheduled reunion at Gilchrist’s.

But I had an ulterior motive for wanting to meet at Gilchrist’s. It was always our favorite breakfast spot when we spent our summers at the shore. This long-running eatery on the dock has a large patio that served breakfast and lunch since 1946. Then for some reason it closed and moved out to Cologne/Galloway about a half hours drive from its original location. I’m happy to report that Gilchrist’s has moved back to Atlantic City and has kept the Cologne/Galloway location opened and also opened in Margate. We chose the familiar spot on the water to meet our friends. The morning was glorious so we sat outside to enjoy our breakfast on the patio with a fabulous view of the back bay and marina.

My memory of their fabulous pancakes made my mouth water and I was not disappointed in the least. Since blueberries were at the peak of their season, I ordered the Blueberry Pancakes and so did Caren’s husband David. Steve and Caren ordered the Chocolate Chip Pancakes. All of us were very happy campers. Both types were loaded with goodies in the lightest, fluffiest pancakes ever. Enhanced with a little fresh creamery butter and maple syrup we all practically inhaled our stacks of flapjacks.
