I would have told you about Eagle Grill and Oyster Bar in Greenacres FL sooner but I kept forgetting to take photos. We were always too anxious to dig in to the most amazing crabcakes ever.
Eagle Grill and Oyster Bar Greenacres FL
Our friends Laura and Stanley, who have lived in South Florida for 15 or 20 years, had discovered Eagle Grill’s best kept secret back in June. So when we arrived back on Father’s Day, it was the first place they wanted to meet us for dinner.
Laura told me that they were the best crabcakes she’d ever had. And she’s from Maryland! We knew that was a great endorsement.
So we made a reservation for a Tuesday night because that’s the night for their Crabcakes Special. On Tuesday’s the Crabcakes platter is $34 instead of the usual $40! The real bargain is that it is very sharable. The entrée consists of 2 very large crabcakes and your choice of 2 sides. We do share. And to tell you just how good it is, we have been there every week since, for the past four and a half months!
About Eagle Grill
Eagle Grill and Oyster Bar in Greenacres FL is a rustic looking, family owned and operated restaurant. It had its beginnings in Greenacres, as an Irish sports bar that the current owners had inherited from the previous owner. It didn’t take long for them to realize that the area didn’t really need another sports bar. And because a friendly neighborhood restaurant with good food would always be welcome, the revamped the menu.
Menu
There is much more to the menu than just crabcakes. In fact, they have a very extensive menu. Besides the crab cakes they feature fresh fish, baby back ribs, steaks, chicken, burgers and sandwiches, fried seafood, wings and much more. Eagle Grill had a fabulous raw bar featuring ultra fresh oysters and clams, shucked or streamed or grilled to order.
There was actually one Tuesday that we didn’t go to Eagle Grill. We went on a Wednesday instead because Wednesday night is their Rib Special. The baby back ribs were fabulous. The meat was so tender that it fell off the bone. But as good as the ribs were, you can get good ribs easily, but no other restaurant ANYWHERE has crabcakes like theirs. So it was back to our standing Tuesday night reservation.
What we order
By now I’m sure you want to know what makes these crabcakes better than all the rest. I’m almost afraid to tell you because Tuesday nights at Eagle Grill might become an impossible reservation to get. LOL! But I’m not going to be selfish. So I’m happy to share. To best describe them, there are two tall scoops of jumbo lump crab that are barely held together with a “smidgen” of breadcrumbs served with remoulade and cocktail sauce.
Truly, there’s so much crab and the morsels are so big that I break them in half. When we transfer one of the crabcakes to the share plate it totally falls apart. But who cares, when there is sooooooo much crab!!!
As I mentioned, you get your choice of tow sides. Normally Steve and I choose fries coleslaw but the last time we were there I wanted more fries, so we just order double fries.
Chowder
Frequently Steve and I start off by sharing a bowl of their creamy dreamy New England Clam Chowder or their really excellent Conch Chowder that’s spicy and thick with conch. And by the time we finish our halves of the Crabcakes platter, we are stuffed.
Sweet endings
Occasionally we skip the chowder so we will have room for their Chocolate Peanut Butter Explosion! If there’s a better way to finish a good meal I don’t know one. There are layers of dark chocolate cake with peanut butter mousse in between and all of that decadence is drizzled with fudge sauce and fresh whipped cream. Oh. And let’s throw some peanuts on top for crunch.
If you are anywhere within driving distance to Greenacres, Florida, I highly recommend you make a reservation for a Tuesday night, or any night for that matter!!!
I am looking forward to Saturday night with the kurlanders at Eagles Grill and Oyster Bar. Everything I like is on the menue. Conch chowder, Oysters, Crab cakes.
Ahhh…those Crab Cakes!!! We miss eating them every Tuesday. We’ve been away from the area since mid November and won’t get back until the beginning of this coming November. I can’t even think of ordering Crab Cakes anywhere else, except maybe Maryland. Enjoy your meal.
