We spent our last Friday before our big trip (more about that at the end of this post) with our best friends Jackie and Alan. Before even getting to their home Festival Flea Market was calling us, so we met there. With one hour till closing we speed shopped. No, seriously, Steve and I bought my Opium and his Boucherom for Men, a car charger for my new iPhone, a cool stylus that matches my lime green phone with turquoise case and a pair of really comfy closed shoes for me. And they bought just as much but different things than we did!

Next we went back to their gorgeous condo on the Intracoastal for Happy Hour. While nibbling and imbibing we started talking about where to eat dinner. And Alan brought up the fact that Direct From Philly world class cheesesteaks had moved from the gas station (not kidding) they were selling from to the City Pub in Deerfield. So we decided that was the perfect spot for dinner. Now you have understand that all four of us are Philadelphia transplants so we know our Philly Cheesesteaks! Truthfully I hadn’t had one yet that really tasted authentic in Florida. That is until Friday night. The owner, Stephen Rao, even brings in Amoroso’s rolls. I’ll tell you what, if I closed my eyes I was eating at Jim’s Steaks on South Street in Philadelphia. And I promise you that Direct From Philly at the City Pub could also hold its own against Pat’s or Geno’s!

The new location is better in every way. It’s in the heart of Deerfield Beach, there is a huge bar area, lots of tables and chairs and fabulous live music along with a great floor for your dancing pleasure. The cheesesteaks are loaded with meat and cheese. And there are varieties galore. Personally I had mine “wit” marinated sweet peppers, grilled onions, roasted garlic, provolone and pizza sauce. The sauce was dripping down my arm and I loved it. I think I inhaled it. I always say the only sandwich that is really good is a messy one! Make sure to check it out and let me know if you agree with me.

Now about that big trip…Steve and I are leaving bright and early Friday morning and flying first class to Albuquerque, New Mexico. We will pick up our rental car and spend 10 days touring Arizona and New Mexico before returning home late at night on November 3. Lucky for us the Grand Canyon has reopened because that was one of the highlights of our trip. I don’t know how much time I will have to post, but if I can I will. If not I will tell you everything when I return home. Adios Amigas and Amigos.
