Before I tell you about our evening at Atlantic City Bar and Grill I would like to share a little more about my Jersey Shore.

Over the many years (more than I’d like to admit) that I have been to my Jersey Shore, which is Atlantic City, Ventnor and Margate, I have witnessed so many changes to the area. When I was a child it was very family oriented. I spent my summers at the Cambridge Villa as my grandparents dubbed our summer home at 2 North Cambridge Avenue in Ventnor. Most days were occupied with fun in the sun on the beach. In the evening we usually took a stroll on the boardwalk to people watch or went to one of the three amusement piers – Steel Pier, Steeplechase and Million Dollar Pier.

Once I became a teenager, and the family found the Cambridge Villa to be too much work catering to visiting family members, we started staying in Atlantic City at either a guest house or a motel on the boardwalk. For me hanging out in Chelsea, the area between Morris and Chelsea Avenues. All the cool kids hung out at High Hat Joes which was basically a hot dog and burger shack. But the years were not kind to the area and it became more and more dilapidated. Once thriving boutiques and hotels became cheap souvenir shops and vacant buildings.

And then gambling was legalized. So with that came glitzy casino hotels and expensive chef driven restaurants. This gave visitors so many more options for what to do but it drove the families away. Now that almost every state has gambling many of these casino hotels have closed. To encourage families back to the area the beaches have been vastly improved, more reasonable restaurants abound and there are better place to shop. Just not on the boardwalk. That is still mostly souvenir shops.
But I still love to spend summer days and nights at my Jersey Shore! And since my husband, our son and I all grew up with our summers there we all go back together joined now by Brian’s wonderful wife Eve. And as is our tradition together we always spend the last night of our trip there with dinner at Atlantic City Bar and Grill.

Atlantic City Bar and Grill isn’t fancy but it always fun and the food is consistently really good. We never have to guess about what Eve will order because she loves their crab legs! Brian is not a seafood lover so he always chooses some form of MEAT. On this visit Steve had the Fried Shrimp and I opted for the Snapper Françhaise.

Our dinners all were preceded by a really fresh tossed salad which was included in the price of the entrées. As always Eve’s crab legs were sweet and succulent. Steve’s shrimp were plump and delicious and although they were fried they were not at all greasy. And the seasoned crinkle cut fries were equally tasty and grease free. My snapper was absolute deliciousness with lots of garlic added to the lemon butter sauce and a few slender asparagus spears added to my pleasure along with a big fat baked potato with all the accoutrements.
We were all a bit sad to be leaving in the morning but glad our vacation was not over yet. So stay tuned to hear about what we did next.
