A Father’s Day Treat
First let me say that I hope all of you fathers out there had as good a day as we did. Our wonderful son and daughter-in-law took us out to breakfast and then out on their boat for the day. We started our day at 8 am at Pearl’s Next Generation Restaurant on Lantana Road in Lantana, Florida. Although the restaurant is pretty much a landmark having opened in 1964 my family had never been there for a meal. I knew Pearl’s had a reputation for good home style comfort food but I was happy to be able to taste for myself. There were nine in our party because we were joined by Brian and Eve’s best friends Greg and Ashley and their clan. For most restaurants this would be a problem but here we were able to be seated right away. The service was very friendly and knowledgeable and the atmosphere was like a typical diner. The breakfast menu was quite varied plus there were several specials. Our server highly recommended one of those specials which was call Redneck Eggs Benedict so that’s what I ordered as did Greg’s mom Harriet. Everyone else ordered a different dish and they all were delicious. My dish which consisted of poached eggs and sausage patties on biscuits with sausage gravy and an side of home fries was so good that I ate half of it before I remembered to take pictures! From Pearl’s we continued to the boat ramp in Boynton Beach to put the boats in the water and continue our outing. We took a leisurely ride up to Peanut Island which is only a little bit past the Electric Plant where the city of West Palm Beach had literally just demolished two very tall smoke stacks that had become out dated. We have been by them for so many years on the Intracoastal that it looked really weird with them gone. We were lucky to get to Peanut Island early enough to be able to get right up to the beach because otherwise our plan wouldn’t have worked. Between Brian and Greg we had a grill, charcoal with a chimney starter, burgers and all of the sides and desserts for a great lunch so we really needed to be able to be on the beach. Now in case boaters come to Peanut Island and they haven’t brought food there are floating restaurants for take-out and a pizza delivery boat! The day was as glorious as the company and lasted until 4:30 when we got back to the boat ramp. We were so wiped out from the sun that we just had pizza for dinner with Caesar salad. But I think that was just fine with Steve.
